Architectural Technology

The research programme for architectural technology is to assess and understand the implication and potential of technological development for architectural design and practice; to create a critical perspective of how building cultures operate; and to research digital tools and interdisciplinary methods in the context of collaboration and production technology.

A founding belief is that the techné of processes – how things happen – is a fundamental design driver in architecture. A curiosity and willningness to explore the implications of this statement at all levels forms the basis both for research projects and teaching contributions within the Architectural Programme. An implicit mission for Architectural Technology is to become a forum where modes of practice and discourse from other departments in the School of Architecture and the Built Environment meet, informing the encounter between architectural and engineering traditions.
