Our way of working
The Topography of the surrounding mountains, with its numerous facets, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration in our projects.
The sensuality and meaningfulness, the emotion, the characteristics and the potentials, that a place – a location and an assignment contain, have influence on the sketch, and find their expression in both form and space, in colours, lighting and perspective, as well as in choice and structure of materials.
With our projects we wish to open the beholders’ eyes for the landscape and the culture that our architecture is situated in.

SILVIA & RETO GMÜR
The office Silvia Gmür and Reto Gmür Architekten was founded some 40 years ago. Over the last 4 decades, our projects featured a variety of themes: housing, social residential building, education, libraries, institutions for leisure and gastronomy. The historical context was important in the projects of transformation of historical buildings as well as for the new constructions. The understanding of the history of architecture and its epochs, the search of the variety and complexity of typologies and the possibility of new interpretations has always been of big concern for the work in the office. The structural aspects, intensely connected with typology, have directed our work in an important manner.

Since 1985 transformations and master plans of hospital projects, played an important part of our work and we designed and built a great number of hospitals. With a fundamental know how of the needs and the organisation of hospital architecture, our interest lies in the development of new, future oriented models for hospital complexes.
