The Why Factory is a think tank on future cities, based on a collaboration wth MVRDV and the Delft University of Technology . In their work, The Why Factory combines research with education. Each new topic is explored in master studios and workshops at the faculty in Delft and abroad. The results are shared with a broader public through exhibitions, debates and in The Why Factory's Future Cities book series . The Why Factory's mode of working has led to a specific methodology, which could be called "Why Factory Method". It includes Model Cities, What-if-approach, Future Models, Visions, Evolutionary studios and a Secret Weapon.
Ulf Hackauf is a teacher at Delft University of Technology and Senior Researcher at The Why Factory, and since 2008 he runs his own research and design practice hackauf.com.
